Norcross High School reunion at The Carlyle House

I will be photographing a 30 year reunion this weekend in historic downtown Norcross at The Carlyle House. This is going to be an exciting evening as the Class of 1980 walks down memory lane. The Carlyle House is magnificent and will serve as the perfect setting for this spectacular evening for the alumni. I am excited and honored to be part of this event. The inner child in us all

Sometimes, we must make time to play and that is a good thing. After taking a few months to play, it is now time to get back to the business of photography. The most awesome part of this for me is I love photography and it really is like child's play. I am thankful to get to do what it is I love! I have been busy photographing things at Mountain Lake Church and some other things about town and I will update the blog with some photos and upcoming events. Again, I am thankful I get to do what I love for a living~

Best of College Photography 2010

Today, I received what appeared to be just another piece of junk mail and almost threw it out but there was something different looking about the letter. I opened it up and the most amazing little sentence was typed on the letter; "We are pleased to inform you that your entry is in the finalist selection group" and then it went on to say "Because you are a finalist, your work will appear in this year's edition". What does all this mean? I took a photograph of a young ballerina named Ryane for a portraiture assignment. The photo was just plain fun shooting, we had a blast and played around alot and just had a great time overall. The photo was selected by my fellow classmates at Gwinnett Technical College Photography Program to represent my class for our final portfolio showing at The Art Station. Since the photo went over well, I decided to enter it into a competition for Photographer's Forum Magazine and was selected out of 13,957 images to be a finalist. The image is now in the running for top honors alongside many other fortunate student photographers. I am simply honored to have even earned this recognition. Keep your fingers crossed and to all the other finalist, congrats to you all, as well.

I have finally made the plunge into the world of social networking. I really enjoy a good face to face conversation but at the prompting of several of my friends, I decided to get a Facebook page. Actually, I am having a great time and have reconnected with alot of old friends and actually have had lunch with a couple of them. I also have a Facebook page now for Colors Of Life Photography so send me a friend invite so we can stay in touch.

Josh and Dayna Gonzalez

Today it is cold and ice is all over the roads from an Atlanta snow event over the last couple of days so I thought I would spend a little time and get my new blog caught up. I will start with an amazing couple whose wedding I had the privilege of photographing, Josh and Dayna Gonzalez. The wedding was this past fall and Josh and Dayna were a pleasure to work with. Josh and Dayna infused a Dominican flair to the reception and the dancing and festivities were so much fun. Thanks to both of you for allowing me to be your photographer.

A mixed bag of things

I love photography; any and all kinds, weddings, families, babies, sports, photojournalism...you name it. The thing I have found is that the basic skills carry from one area to another. The more you shoot, the better you get. For me, any chance to shoot is a good one. If I take a challenging football assignment, you might ask "how does that apply to weddings"? Well, think of the fast action, low lighting, crowds cheering, band playing football environment to a wedding..there is fast action, low lighting, crowds cheering and a band playing, at a wedding, too! Any day is a good day to shoot. So, I think I will get the camera ready and see what I can find today. Wait!! tomorrow it is supposed to snow~ Bright white overexposed environment, cold temperatures, people sliding, kids playing..Gonna be a good day~

Photographers leading the way

An important thing to every photographer is an appreciation for the ones who lead the way in our craft. I had the pleasure of meeting and working alongside one such person this past year and just wanted to share a little info on Robert King . While doing a photojournalism story for a school assignment, I met Robert, on two seperate occasions. What a really nice guy. He was so humble and to be completely honest, the first time I met him, he shared a little information about his background. I thought to myself, naahhhh...he is just someone who is telling big tales..lol..So I go home and did a little Google research and much to my surprise, this guy is rocking the world of photojournalism. He shoots for Polaris Images and has a movie depicting his journeys as a war photographer. Such a nice guy. The important thing with photojournalism is learning to capture "the moment"and seeing "the light". If you have a moment, check out his work.

Helping Santa help Brightpoint for Children

I had the opportunity to help Santa Clause help children in need through an organization called BrightPoint for Children this Christmas season. Big John's Christmas Trees partnered with BrightPoint through Christmas tree sales and a free picture with Santa to help raise funds for these wonderful children. What an amazing day it was to volunteer my time to photograph children with Santa for such a great cause. Santa was a ton of fun to work with and the kids were so captivated.

A new year and a new blog

2009 was a great year and I am happy to be able to say that I completed a two year commercial photography program this past September. It was a wonderful experience and I have made life-long friends along the way. I made the decision to go back to school and formally study photography as my business was growing and I wanted to give the best to my clients I could possibly give in terms of great images. I am going to use the next couple of blog post to catch up on some "shout outs" to some really neat folks I have worked with the past couple of months. Enjoy and check back frequently.
